As immersive technologies expand into our day to day lives, we have the opportunity to experience new places and histories virtually. Whether it is a walk through of real estate or an event space, or viewing an exhibit in a museum that is hundreds of miles away, or taking a virtual tour of a historic site and era, 3D laser scanning and documentation allows you to explore new worlds.
The Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the U.S State Department maintains an incredible collection of historic artifacts, artwork, and furniture including national treasures and gifts of diplomacy from around the world. This collection is a living national treasure serving as a magnificent and versatile venue for diplomatic events, but it is basically inaccessible to the general public. In 2018 they contacted us to scan objects in their collection and produce 3D models. The goal was to enable students and web visitors to experience the models online through education programs and as clickable elements from within their high quality virtual tour.
