Description
Direct Dimensions has been fortunate to work on over 75 film and TV productions to help create visual effects, or CGI. 3D scanning captures the real physical items in the scenes to allow the VFX to appear as real as it does.
Some of our favorite projects over the last 30 years are the several movies we worked on for Marvel Studios, including its two biggest box office hits and two of the biggest movies ever made: Avengers: Infinity War, released in 2018, followed by its sequel in 2019, Avengers: Endgame. Both movies were a tremendous box office success, with Infinity War ranked as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time and Endgame as the second highest of all time. Both films featured incredible A-list actors representing the various Avengers characters played by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Zoe Saldaña, Bradley Cooper, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
For these two Avengers movie projects, Direct Dimensions had several technicians living on-site for a full year in the Atlanta area working at Pinewood Studios, now called Trilith Studios. Our team was embedded with the production for the entire year of 2017, scanning all of the sets, props, vehicles, costumes, locations, and the actors using a variety of advanced 3D scanning systems we brought on set. Following this long production effort, our team continued working on post-processing and modeling this massive dataset for another year and a half back at our headquarters in Owings Mills, Maryland. The thousands of finished 3D assets were then used by Marvel’s many VFX subcontractors around the world to create the amazing post-production visual effects as seen in these movies.
Both Avengers films were awarded many accolades for their visual effects including Oscar nominations in both 2019 and 2020, a 2018 win at the Hollywood Film Awards, and a 2020 win at the Critics Choice Awards.
