When off-the-shelf equipment falls short, our custom photogrammetry camera rigs deliver the precision and repeatability that specialized 3D scanning applications demand. With over 15 years of R&D experience, we design and build complete multi-camera scanning systems that capture subjects in a single simultaneous trigger, producing rich, full-color 3D models with no motion artifacts. Our engineering team handles everything from camera selection and synchronization to full system integration, working with DSLRs, and other cameras depending on your resolution, speed and budget requirements. We also bring deep software expertise across Agisoft Metashape, RealityCapture and 3DF Zephyr, and can develop custom image processing and data management pipelines when your application calls for something proprietary. The result is a purpose-built scanning solution engineered to your exact workflow.

Matthew Mohr's "As We Are"

“As We Are” is a permanent interactive exhibit at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, conceived by artist Matthew Mohr. The centerpiece is a 14-foot sculptural head with a 3D photo booth built into the back of the neck. Visitors step in, and within two minutes the giant head illuminates to look like them. Direct Dimensions designed and built the custom photogrammetry camera rigs that make this possible. We engineered an array of 29 Raspberry Pi cameras compact enough to fit inside the sculpture, then developed a fully autonomous software pipeline to capture each visitor, generate a 3D model and texture map, align their facial features to the sculpture’s geometry and reproject the image onto the LED display, all in under 60 seconds. The system handles children, glasses, Halloween makeup and unusual head positions without manual intervention.
